Lakor extends a hand

Making it matter more. December 13, 2008--while the entire country is fixed at Manny Pacquiao's dream fight against Oscar Dela Hoya, the ten beauty contestants for the Lakambini ng Koronadal 2009 set out on a mission--to bond and make happy the children at St. Lawrence Bahay Kalinga.

The eventful day started at 8am when the Lakor candidates went, first, for a pictorial session at the Figueroa Highlands Resto and Grill. After which, the ladies proceeded with the Lakor committee to St. Lawrence Orphanage, bringing with them some gifts for the children and the intent of engaging them in moments of fun and games.

In the orphanage, the contestants were greeted by the smiles of enthused children of ages 5 to 12 and the facilitators. They played a game called "open the basket, close the basket", which was actively participated in by the ladies and kids. After the game, the children of St. Lawrence rendered a dance number where the Lakor ladies also stepped in and joined the dancing. After the dance, the kids also performed a group singing of their theme song. Then, the Lakor ladies proceeded with the giving of gifts to the children. They brought with them toy sets, candies and a nicely decorated cake, which the kids shared among themselves. The children showed their happiness in the glowing of their eyes and their laughters while they played with their new toys and sharing the food.

After that, the contestants posed for some pictorials with the children and proceeded to Del Rio Splash Resort where they were treated to a hearty lunch before doing a final round of pictorials there.

The Search is On!

The Lakambini ng Koronadal Pageant is an annual celebration of the beauty and grace of Koronadal’s finest young ladies who vie for the coveted title and become the ambassador of goodwill for the city.
This celebrated event rooted from olden traditions when members of prominent families and clans of the early settlers gather at the town plaza for the annual commemoration of Marbel’s foundation day. They would select the most desirable young ladies from among their group and parade them around the town center on colorfully decorated kalesa or kariton. Then, they would all congregate at the plaza for a great feast.
Over time, this contest has evolved into a yearly affair that seeks for a young Koronadaleña with the best personality and traits worthy of representing Koronadal’s radiant beauty and distinct character.
